Montreal
May 17, 2007
After hearing from so many people that Montreal was like Paris, I was a little surprised that it struck me so similar to Holland. The airport felt like Schiphol, and the landscape was flat, wet, and Dutch. I had a small moment of nervous nostalgia, like an anxious echo.
I left my gear at home again, so this and any successive pictures come from my phone.
Getting unfamiliar money out of the ATM ignited my wanderlust.
There are now three things I want in the world: A 1080p 40inch HDTV (flatscreen or otherwise), a memory foam covered bed, and a trip to a foreign country.
The Griffith Park Fire
May 10, 2007
On my second night in my new apartment, Griffith Park caught on fire. This is the view, as seen from my dining room table, of the blaze.
Because of the clearing effect of the flames, the mountains now look farther away … the way distant hills seem barren because the foliage detail doesn’t register in your eyes.
There are three more photos in the set, but this is my favorite. The three major colors of the image (yellow in the foreground, then green/blue, and red) give the whole picture a thematic cohesiveness. It’s like the buildings are resonating with the fire — or sympathizing.
