Tonight at the Groundlings, I’m putting up a sketch that I can finally say showcases my sense of humor. It’s a different take on the final moments of The Neverending Story, where Bastian rides Falcor to get revenge on the bullies that beat him up at the beginning of the movie. After saving Fantasia, Bastian gets anything he desires, after all.

In the version that I co-wrote with James Adomian, Bastian goes mad with power and goes on a theft and murder spree before becoming God. The set designer/prop master at The Groundlings has built me a replica Falcor head that I ride behind. I control his mouth with a foot-pedal. If it goes well, I’ll post it to YouTube next week.

So, I’ve been busy. With a new apartment, the Sunday Company, and shows at three theaters in Los Angeles (soon to be four), there’s very little time to sit down and write. Anime Expo came and went, next week is E3, and the week following is Comic-Con. What’s a girl to do!?

Let me begin by saying that the Sunday Company is an unforgiving amount of work. In the last three months or so, I’ve written 40+ sketches … three of which have seen the stage. Frustrating doesn’t begin to describe the process, but Boom taught me to roll with the punches as best I could, so here I am, rolling around like crazy. The good news is, I’ll have one hell of a one-person show when I’m done. New songs, new characters, and new ideas are forced out of me like magma. It’s too bad my style just isn’t very … “Groundlings.”

Also, this week marked the end of a small era. I’ve decided to focus on the 10pm show at Ultimate Improv for a while, after spending the last year and a half performing with the 9pm group, “El Ultimo.” The show was headed in a different direction that what I wanted, and rather than bring my anger out on my fellow, talented improvisers, I decided to stop fighting and try a different place for a while. Two shows on Saturday nights was draining me anyway, since the high-energy evening is always followed by an early Sunday morning on Melrose.

In other news, Miles and I are going to start our new show soon, tentatively titled, “Super Miles (and Guests).” It’s a one-hour improv show at IOWest with Miles, Tim Meadows, and myself. That’s about a month away, but it’s never too early to start promoting it.

Oh, and while we’re talking about promoting, tonight I’m in TWO SHOWS. 8:00 at the Westside Eclectic and 11:00 at UCB (with Last Day of School.) Tomorrow is 10pm Roberto Alomar at Ultimate Improv, and Sunday night is 7:30 Sunday Company at The Groundlings. Give me a shout, and I’ll get you a comp.
